Read Alouds

Audra and I were talking about great read-aloud books and I offered to start a thread - use the comments to share your best recommendations for books to order from the library in time for Feb. break...

(Kate and I just started The Year of the Dog by Grace Lin and Craig and Grace are reading Neddiad by Daniel Pinkwater.  I just finished Major Pettigrew's Last Stand and Craig last read a Tale of Two Cities of all things).

We just finished this at our house. Quite charming.

Fuchsia and I are reading the Little House books. We finished Little House in the Big Woods and jumped to The Long Winter since it was season appropriate. Now we are back to Little House on the Prairie.

The Pushcart War. It's really funny and is all about how revolutions can start from misunderstandings, how hard it is to back down and find a compromise, and how banding together can help get your message across.

Man, Maya -- I think you might need to put some copies of that out into Maine politics! Will order from library!

Didn't mean to misrepresent. It's more about corporate bullying and that whole well-behaved-women-rarely-make-history thing. But the escalation and banding together still stand. And it's still very funny and poignant.

And don't forget that the book list in the book lists tab of this blog - compiled last year - should keep you busy for a while.
